The Time The Sun Won

We had decided to go see the changing of the guards. It was fairly early in the morning so we hoped it wouldn’t be too hot as Alona had already had sunstroke twice in the past 3 weeks in the battle to try and get a tan. I don't know when she will realise she is Scottish so it is impossible. Armed with a large bottle of water we set out to see the ‘show’.

As we arrived at Syntagma Square the heat was already unbearable. We found a small covered green shaded area and we stood in the shade drinking water. As I passed the water back to Alona she was, to my horror, crouched in a ball with her head against her knees.

‘You alright?’ I already knew the answer but its always polite to ask

‘Aye, just hot, you can go watch the guards I can’t move.’

As i left her and emerged into the sun I too thought I would fall victim. I was roasting and as I watched the ceremony I couldn't help but hope Alona was ok.

As the ceremony ended, and the sun got even hotter I headed back to the shaded area where Alona was meant to be but I couldn't find her, Mum's going to kill me, I thought! As i went round panic took - over where is she? On the second time I had walked the whole way round a crowd had gathered they were all taking photos. What is it?

As they moved on I peered over and it was a dead body!

There was 2 legs hanging out a bush and from what I could see... 4 fingers! Bloody hell I thought, then to my horror the dead body wheezed ‘Breagh’. I thought of running away as the huge group of Japanese tourists looked around for Breagh.

I was motified as the legs shuffled down a little and from under the bush an arm emerged like something from a Zombie apocalypse film. I kept watching what was happening, frozen to the spot, the the armed clawed along the ground and suddenly Alonas head appeared.

‘What happened!?’

As I dragged her to her feet she collapsed on my shoulder. It was over a kilometer to our hostel so I slung her weak arm around my shoulder poured the last of the water over her head. Then I carried her like injured gazel. As I dragged her for a very hot gruling kilometer we managed to get home in about 30 minutes as Alona dramatically held onto the wall. She went for a cold shower and had a sleep and felt much better.

After that the tanning came to a abrupt end .
