Eurovision
Eurovision! A show I have always loved, the whole family would be ready to watch it. We would get in some wine and mum would buy the fancy crisps - stuff dreams are made of. Of course the best part about it is Graham's commentary.
There was never an option to go to Eurovision and it never crossed our minds till one day our friend Kaz came over rom the Czech republic. She and Alona went to uni together and for years on holidays like Easter or new year she would come over to our house. We have known her like a sister for about 10 years.
She was over in Bratislava for a vist and we were having lunch, the Olympics was on and Czech republic were doing very well. She asked us if we could do anything what would it be? Go to Eurovision I laughed! Then why dont you, she asked.
I didn't have an answer to be honest. Its too expensive I said. Have you looked? No I replied honestly. Alona got her phone out and realised we had made that up in our heads and they were quite reasonable for such a big competition. Buy them I told her. Kaz egged us one and within 5 minutes we had 2 tickets. Now how to get to Portugal? And where to stay?
Flights were hard to come across so we had to get a connecting one. Once we arrived in Lisbon it was stunning! It beautiful there!
Having a little dance
The city was full of excitement and Eurovision was taking over. You could see excitement in the fellow eurovisioners! We ate beautiful food as the Eurovision bug started to make us uncontrollably excited! We had been listening to all the songs for months now. We knew them all of of by heart. The day arrived and we got to the stadium and everyone was so excited! There was a queue leading to t-shirts, scarfs and different things. We joined everyone. We got a t-shirt and we decided to get the t-shirt and a scarf for the Czech republic as we wanted them to win.
Look at our wee faces!
As we went to the bathroom and stripped in a cubical we stuffed our tops into our bags with our new shirts on. Beer was super cheap there so we got 2 each and we went in. The room was huge. It was a semi final night so their was some empty seats but the atmosphere was buzzing.
Then the show started! Omg omg omg omg! I was in heaven I have never been so happy in all my life! As they tunes boomed and they different countries acts danced the room was like a ball of energy! I was so happy! you have no idea how happy I was! It was really happening I was at Eurovision! Then it was Czech republics time! I sang my little heart out and danced along! I dont think Alona was ready for my bellowing right beside her! Haha
As the night drew to a close I couldn't belive we had seen it live! Well worth it if you ever get a chance to go.
The night of the finals arrived and we headed to the park where they were playing it on a big screen. We queued and everyone was in fancy dress singing, dancing and laughing. Nothing could have spoiled the day. We got in and decided to pee but there was hundreds of people. We stood and the people in front of us had Irish accents so we said hello and chatted the whole way till our turn, they have us tisues and as we were next to go a drunk man walked passed us and took the free toilet! OUTRAGE
next thing I new a girl stroned over ripped the door open and pulled him out while he was still peeing she screamed in his face and everyone cheered what a hero! he didn't mind and kept peeing. Eww.
We peed then headed for some beer there was only one beer stand and it was mobed! A lovely man started talking to us, he was craic of the contrary he told us stories of living in Greece and Portugal, we couldn't stop laughing he was so funny! He should be on a stage! As the time passed quickly listening to his hysterical rendishions of living in Greece.
We got our beers and went to find a hey bale to stand on as the front near the screen was packed. There was some English people in front of us so we befriended them. They added there bales to mine and we made a small platform. Me and Alona had Czech flags wrapped around us and then The Union Jack. We drank laughed and danced belting out tunes like there was no tommorw! We yelled and sang to our hearts content, It was so freeing it was my idea of a great night and there by the looks of it!
It came time for the last song the place was alive people dancing and singing hugging kissing everyone looked like Christmas had came early. As we said goodbye we walked down the street towards our hostle, the packed street was full of people sning dancing and making friends! It was beautiful to see the different nationalitys and people connect. By the way this is not sponserd ;)
But no honestly if you ever get the chance go! It was possibly the best week of my intire life I am beeming thinking about it now!
Safest place ever for my phone
And for some reason Alona has nicked my look and wore dungarees
