The map
Me and my sister woke up very hungover one day and decied the best way to feel right as rain again would be to get some food. Somewhere very close and fast. We settled for Sushi Time. It was a rather painful three minute walk but we powered on. When we were at the till we saw they were selling giant colour in maps of Slovakia, Berlin, Prague and one of all the countries in Europe. So we made a quick decision to get the map of Europe. As we walked back to our flat we joked about colouring in all the places we had been.
After we coloured in Scotland, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Poland, Czech republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuainia and of course Slovakia.
As we looked at our very pale map, we coloured in the sea but this only highlighted the great amount of places we had yet to discover.
We were going to Porgual in a few weeks to achieve a life long dream of going to Eurovision! We put the map on the wall and everyday looked at it and decided we were going to make it our mission to colour the whole thing in somehow.
From this the summer trip was born.
First week into the trip
We looked at the countries and decided to do the more cheaper ones first. As we are both teachers we have the whole summer off. In September of 2017 Alona started to get researching. We thought the best way would be to plan a country and pay for the accommodation per pay check. Giving us ( I say us but Alona is the brains of the operation) 10 months to plan our first ever backpacking trip.
First place was Romania, the next month Bulgaria and the month after that Greece. We had to think long and hard where to go from there so we looked around and decided the Balkans would be the only ones we could afford. So after that we decided on Albania, Montenegro, Croatia and Bosnia Hercegovina.
We also thought of how to do the other countries as well but our main focus was to be able to colour in those countries first.
